some carriers dont use sim cards, and some do...

try takin out the sim call or waiting a moment then restarting the phone, clean out the sim card spot and behind the sim call, cuz it might not be registering.

Either its not registering or its sim blocked? Can you enter a pin number if you can then u gotta call them up to get the unlocking number bullshit...that or u need to get a new sim

I took the simcard out and let it just charge there so I'll see what happens.

I doubt it was the correct simcard or whatever cause my friend just found it and gave it to me.

The SIM has to be registered with the ESN (Electronic Serial Number) of the phone. If you just put a random SIM into your phone without updating the AT&T database then it's not going to work.
