I'm here to break my own ball and chain..
I've been waiting for Blacketh to write sixteen lines for like two months lol.
cool. thinking of becoming a clinical psychologist?
therapist was my initial goal but i'm thinking of going more into the research field.. maybe cross over later. you in school?

I'm here to break my own ball and chain..
Lol, I've sent you ...
- A list of topics to choose from.
- At least five different concepts, sprawled out and explained.
- At least five different verses to work with.
And you've never sent me anything in return man.
nah I finished, but I'm going back in fall for education. gameplan is to be a teacher. research would be cool, how would you go about doing that? would you go back to school right after?
I admire Oat's effort to keep the chat thread going. Much kudos to you, sir. I will try to do my part(since i cant sleep anway).
topic of discussion:
story vs topic
So not all of us are a blacketh or a fresh-a-diddle, whom can blend stories and topics seamlessly but if you had to pick one approach over the other, which would you prefer? A story written in topical form or narrative form? For the sake of discussion, lets say the topic given is "Chess". Now one can go about writing some kind of metaphorical spiel on society in a topical(or exploratory) manner or one can form a linear narrative with all the components of traditional "story" mechanics. Please don't cheat and say something like "both", lol.

if I had to answer I suppose I'd say a metaphorical piece, but when a verse is good its a good verse ya know? I won't hate on a well-told story.
yep i understand. I brought this up because last season, a situation came up when one participant became flustered from numerous losses and contribute these losses to the league being bias against topicals, lol. I feel its a legit discussion cuz it can really alter a person's strategy for writing in this league...especially with playoffs coming. thats if they take it that, that seriously, lol. treat this discussion as a market research lol.

its a valid point. I will also say that those metaphorical verses are harder to pull off, so even if someone enjoys writing them, he just might not be good enough. Meaning, it isn't the style so much as the writing that dissuades voters.
^^very true. I also feel that creativity is also a factor too, with your verse last week being a very fine example.

yeah I agree, my verse was awesome. lol nah, I agree that I stake a lot of value in creativity when I vote, though I wouldn't go so far to say that I place it above strong technical quality. It really all depends. If an awful concept was worded brilliantly, I might vote for it over a creative concept worded brutally.
well, both is a valid answer though, because if you can tackle both ideas in one swoop, you got some quality content
ie if you tell a great story, and that story holds strong underlying metaphorical content, you get best of both worlds
but if i had to choose one or the other you'd find me siding with metaphorical
as for concept over writing quality, like oat said its all in the balance of it, and id normally side with a better concept with slightly less quality of writing, but when looking at the extremes, quality writing is always gonna win out over a terrible piece of work that had a good idea behind it
